London Fashion Week A/W 2010...favourites so far.

MARY KATRANTZOU

As always Mary presented an interesting collection full of colour and fine detail. It was really nice to see some colour finally walking down the catwalk as many of designers have stuck to earthy colours and nudes for their collections. To prove herself as a credible designer Mary made sure that she used very different prints on her designs and brought something different to the proceedings with the ruffled fabrics seen on the last dresses.

TOPSHOP UNIQUE

The whimsical nature of Unique was apparent by just looking at the leaves scattered across the catwalk; so that the models looked like they were talking a stroll out on a cold autumn day. The belted jackets are a perfect statement piece for autumn. I love some of the longer lengths shown at Unique also; related to my quest for the perfect longer length skirts and dresses! My favourite has to be the all white and cream look above; it just has a dream like quality to it.

VIVENNE WESTWOOD

As always Vivienne put on a wonderful show; one model walked down the catwalk with a butchers apron on holding a knife. Only at Westwood! The footwear was awesome as always. However I do hope the 13 year old daddys girls will stay away from Westwood footwear when they hit the shops. I am sick of seeing these little girls in £300 boots; the pirate boots are EVERYWHERE in Leeds. The first black jacket is pretty toned down but I have to say she pulls off simple pieces as well as the extravagant!

LOUISE GOLDIN

The structured silhouettes seen at Louise Goldin were amazing! The sparkly leggings that ran into sparkly boots were awesome. There was also a rather fierce sequin and black look which was definitely my favourite of the the whole collection. Louise is a designer that creates clothing for the powerful woman; just look at her shoes for Topshop. You have to have attitude to wear these clothes!

New York Fashion Week Autumn 2010 .... favourites continued...

THE ROW

More black looks. This really looks like I have an obsession with black, which I guess I do but I do wear colour I promise! The clothes we see from Mary-Kate and Ashley may have been fairly simple but the cut of the clothes was impeccable. You can really see that they created something which they themselves would wear.

JEREMY SCOTT

I really love how Jeremy Scott brought a playful side to the proceedings in New York. The jumper spelling out 'style' is just the right amount of tongue in cheek. I also loved the different silhouettes created through out the collection. The leather jacket with gold detailing is absolutely stunning and continues on the grunge look I'm pretty fond of now.

VERA WANG

It seems like Vera Wang has toned down her collection this time; although she did manage to sneak in a lovely organza dress at the end which brought the drama to the show. The white shirt and black trousers look so comfy; it would be a joy to through these on on a cold day and wrap up in a (fake) fur coat!

PROENZA SCHOULER

I must say I absolutely loved this collection. The amount of different textures and the deep colours used really made it for me. The sheer dress may not be for everyone but it could be layered over something plain to make for an interesting autumn look. I love the deep blue trousers; and it can certainly be said that they would turn heads!

New York Fashion Week Autumn 2010 .... favourites so far...

These are my favorites so far from what New York has had to offer. Don't get me wrong these aren't the only collections I liked, its just there are many professional mediums out there which cover every show and where you can get an in depth analysis. That's not what I'm here to do. I am however here to give my opinion on these four....

CYNTHIA ROWLEY

I love love love all the different textures going on in this collection. And did you check out those red shoes?!? The printed trousers above are beautiful and would fit right into any wardrobe, perhaps not for the faint-hearted and maybe your average woman on the street wouldn't wear them with a sheer and feather top. However tone it down with a plainer top half and your good to go!

THAKOON

I thought this collection was stunning. Probably due to the fact it had so many black looks in it, and I'm a mad fan for all black looks. Thakoon has come so far with his designing in recent years. Watching him on The September Issue, it kind of helps to know he is a thoughtful designer who isn't afraid to give thanks to those who have helped him get to where he is now. I especially love the last sheer and sequin top; which could be layered over so many things.

MARC JACOBS

I wasn't crazy about everything from Marc Jacobs however I was really pleased to see loads of longer lengths coming through. I'm currently trying to make a maxi length work for me; and being 5"4 - 5"5 it isn't that easy. This has given me plenty of inspiration though, even if the models here are about a foot taller than me. Oh, and you can't go wrong with a sequin cardigan!

L.A.M.B

Having being a massive Gwen fan for a while I am always keen to see what her collection brings. This one did not disappoint. The leather shorts are amazing; I can imagine them paired with a soft grey slouchy jumper. The green bondage t shirt (as I'm calling it for now) adds a touch of rock and roll to the whole show. I especially loved the black dress - black boots combo as it looks both classy, sexy and rock 'n' roll all rolled into one!

Alice in Wonderland?

So I've done a little photo shoot here which I never seem to get round to doing. And I always hate the posing I prefer much more natural pictures of me. I always think I look like Chandler Bing in that episode of Friends where he reveals he can't smile in pictures. Plus I don't always find amazing places to pose, so mind the surroundings. Anyway I had a little theme running through the pictures; Alice in Wonderland.

The first pictures here is what I think Alice would wear if she was a little Gothic; and also if she had stolen the white rabbits watch.

Dress- Orion London, Necklace - Miss Selfridge, Lace Tights - Jonathan Aston,
Wedges - Steve Madden.

Next up is this fabulous bow from Emma Fielden. How obnoxiously amazing is it? This is Alice's cute bow x 100. And these are my new shoes from the wonderful Vivienne Westwood. I love them dearly however they do rub after a long day!

Hair Bow - Emma Fielden, Dress - Topshop, Shoes - Melissa for Vivienne Westwood.

I officially can't wait to see the film, it comes out March 5th. I hope you'll all be going to see it!

These pictures are so pretty!

Spring 2010 Couture Fashion Shows...the best of....

CHANEL

It was pastels galore at Chanel. Which is bang on trend for Spring as we are seeing these colours appearing more and more in editorials and magazines spreads. I really loved the big over the top bows, although I don't think it would suit me without the back up of the beehive.

CHRISTIAN DIOR

As always it was a very extravagant affair at Dior. Some of the outfits looked fit for a Victorian horse rider; especially the first one in the images above. I do love the drama and you can always rely on John Galliano to bring it.

VALENTINO

Futuristic could be used to describe Valentino Spring Couture collection. Everything had a strong angles and shapes in the construction. I love the black outfit in the middle... I'm always drawn to black outfits. But the hint of cream adds another dimension.

GIVENCHY

Thigh high boots are still in for some time, they look abit like my Topshop ones ! I love the mix of purples used by Givenchy in this collection. The green trousers are also certainly a sight to behold!

Fashion Blogging... Bow-gate!

It's lovely to see at the moment my dissertation topic. is pretty much being discussed both in the media and by fellow bloggers. (I shall not post the exact topic on here as when I come to write about it I would effectively by plagiarizing myself. Sounds crazy but true.) However with such articles as the one seen in The Independent there is a steady rise in the documentation of the outrage of certain fashion journalists as they find themselves increasingly replaced by bloggers. Or so they say....
We all know the lovable Tavi from her blog Style Rookie; she has come under recent fire from a few journalists for wearing this hat at the Dior Couture show...

as she was said to be blocking the view of people behind her. She has also come into fire for simply wearing the hat in the first place. To be honest I think the criticism is all a little TOO much, Tavi was given the hat and as the saying goes 'it would be rude not to.'
I think now as we see an ever expanding new media platform, journalists will have to either learn to put up or shut up. That being said I think that fashion journalists from major magazines bring a sense of professionalism, whereas you can afford to be a little out there on a blog.
I think we can all live in peace and harmony... speaking for bother sides being a blogger and doing a degree in Journalism. It would be wonderful if all bloggers out there could get a big break through this medium, but sadly it only happens for a lucky few.
