With the new exhibition at the Victoria and Albert museum looking at the fashion of David Bowie, I thought I would dedicate this months fashion in music post to him. He may not of really had an interest in fashion but many of his stage outfits shaped the fashion landscape. His androgynous look has had a massive impact on the fashion world. The whole exhibition is actually sponsored by Gucci – with many designers crediting Bowie as one of their inspirations, its not hard to see why Gucci wanted a hand in this.
Bowie showed everyone that it was ok to express themselves as they wished – women could embrace their masculinity and men their femininity. Showing that mystery and intrigue are sexy, Bowie transcended all that had come before him. His stage outfits maybe famous but his tailored suits, that he teamed with heels, are a marvel too. I thought this Topshop silk suit would be right up Bowie’s street and adds a touch of masculine to an outfit while still managing to be sexy. These white brogues from ASOS would look great too – switch it up for the evening with a pair of heels. If you are wanting to go ‘all out ziggy’ you can use these pure pigments from Illamasqua to paint on that infamous lightening bolt.
