London Collections: Men starts today – kicking off the fourth season of the men’s fashion event. While I can’t be there myself, I have my eye on the Twitter time line #LCM. Very often the British press like to pick up on the most extreme outfits that come out of the London Collections, nipple flashing cropped jumper anyone? The press seem to neglect covering the great tailoring and wearable pieces to come out of the Men’s shows. These are the pieces which you could see your average man on the street wearing.
I attended a LCM event last year in association with Harvey Nichols which really opened my eyes to the talent within menswear designing. I had the pleasure of talking to Charlie Casley-Hayford at the event – he was passionate about the clothes that him and his father (Joe) were making. Many of their designs were inspired by music, something which I think everyone can relate to.
Topman Design had some really wearable pieces, along with the slightly more eccentric pieces for those who are looking for something you won’t see your average Joe wearing. The colour palette was mainly black, grey and navy with exciting splashes of red, powder blue and teal. It looks like leather accents are going to be big in AW14, I love the jacket above which has a leather panel on the bottom half. This is a great way to wear leather if you aren’t quite ready for leather trousers. Team your smart jacket with a polo and you’ve got your AW14 uniform sorted. All black outfits are going to be big too, if this collection is anything to go by. I loved the way Topman used social media too – you could watch their show live via YouTube and shop the collection on Google+ . Their finale was particularly spectacular as the heavens appeared to open and the catwalk was covered in rain
