In The Spotlight: Julia Korol

With a Masters in Fashion from the one and only Central Saint Martins – I knew when Julia Korol’s look book landed in my inbox that I’d be in for a treat. Her Spring/Summer 2014 collection has stunning feminine pieces with a little bit of an edge, just the way I like them. Julia’s fine art background has meant she could create some very intricate designs – it just reminds me of looking into a kaleidoscope.
I caught up with Ukrainian born Julia Korol, after her first show at Paris Fashion Week, for some quick fire questions.
What is your advice for students wishing to attend Central Saint Martins?
My advice would be to take in all the wisdom you can from your tutors. Central Saint Martins gives you a unique opportunity to learn from the best. Also, try to push boundaries and create something that really defines you, something that truly represents you. This is the time to figure out what you love and what your strengths are.

What are your main sources of inspiration when you are designing a new collection?
My inspiration comes from everyday life. I love observing my surroundings; people, their habits, nature, architecture, art. It is important for me to remind myself to absorb as much as possible. In this day and age we are inundated with information. It is our openness to the world around us that allows us to create things that are truly unique and timeless. Each season I like to push boundaries and come up with something different. It’s important to reflect on the past in order to create something new.
If you could dress anyone (it doesn’t have to be anyone famous) who would it be and why?
I would love to dress Kate Middleton. Her grace and elegance has always struck me.
Where do you see your label in 5 years time?
I would hope to see the brand recognized world-wide. I’m excited about helping people express themselves and, to me, that has no boundaries.
