On Wednesday I headed over to La Creuset in the Victoria Quarter to celebrate the launch of Sasha Wilkins new book Friends, Food Family. The lovely lady herself was there cooking up a storm in the kitchen. It’s so nice to see people do live demos like this, it helps me learn the recipes. Sasha actually revealed to us that this was the first time she had cooked with an audience, I have to say you could’t tell at all. Her main message of the evening and what I imagine would come from the book is that you shouldn’t spend hours in the kitchen! This was music to my ears, who wants to through a dinner party to only see your guests for a few fleeting moments as you disappear into the kitchen again. Sasha equates food with happiness as she takes great joy in feeding her family and friends. This is something I have certainly started to identify with. I was a hopeless cook when I lived at home because to be honest I really couldn’t be bothered. But now I quite enjoy cooking after work as it gives some time to unwind. I’ll be picking up her book on Amazon and adding to my repertoire very soon.
A favourite of the evening for me were the sweetcorn fritters. Severed with yoghurt, guacamole and caramelised onions. Perfection! The plate above is the one I scoffed down, this is a recipe I will be trying for myself.
