Paris Fashion Week: The HighlightsThursday, 2 October 2014
Saint Laurent brought the 70's back with a bang - this collection screamed 'Penny Lane' to me from Almost Famous. This collection oozed sex appeal, whether it be the see-through blouses not covering very much or the very sheer tights there was a definite mood for this collection. I'm so pleased that the fun faux fur will be in for another season. I'm snapping up loads of stoles as we speak - I need to get myself a fun faux jacket a la Slimane. He is certainly bringing back the platform for SS15, at least it's a comfortable heel! It's all about the wide brim hats and turbans too - this collection seemed to accessorise with ease. Giving you that 'I just through this on' look while still being effortlessly polished.
I'm sure by now you've seen the protest that took place on the catwalk at Chanel. Karl admitted that it was a subject close to his heart as his mother was a feminist – although I think shouldn't every woman identify herself as one don't you? Any question why this was happening at a fashion show but in a world where we are still fighting for gender equality why shouldn't fashion take a political stance. As for the clothes themselves they summed up the different types of women in society. The loud brush strokes made a real statement while the more reserved outfits displayed another side to women. The Chanel style suit was re-invented once again and still somehow manages to stay fresh. I have to hand it to Karl, he certainly knows how to get people talking.
Givenchy was all a buzz with the arrival of the Kardashian-West train - am I the only one in the world who could not care less about them? Also the fact their baby had it's own seat at the show seemed a little excessive! The mixture of black, white and sheer fabrics were everything I look for in a collection. And those thigh high peep toe boots would look great with a thigh skimming dress. I love the little black dress brought up to date with cut-outs - somehow showing a lot of flesh without revealing too much. The layering of the sleeveless jackets over the top was really the cheery on the top of a great collection for me.
