Review: Mercure St Paul's Hotel and Spa

I think it’s really important to give yourself a day of relaxation. We are always so busy and don’t take time out to re-charge their batteries. With this in mind when I was invited to Mecure St Paul’s Hotel and Spa in Sheffield I jumped at the chance. What made it all the more special was that I could share it with my mum, you've got to treat your mum every once in a while don’t you think?

I never really understood the allure of a massage until I actually had one. I have to say once you've had your first massage you’ll jump at the prospect of having more. Before we had our treatments we headed to the bar for lunch. We both had a rather lovely roasted vegetable and goats cheese wrap and a glass of wine. If you can’t do this at the weekend, when can you?  It was just what we needed before a day of relaxing. I must say there isn't a large amount of choice on the lunch menu but I think there is something for everyone.

We had two treatments in one to start with which lasted for an hour – although I felt a little disorientated when I came out as I could of sworn I’d only be in there 20 minutes. First I had a facial which left my skin absolutely sparkling; it does bring the dirt in your skin up to the surface though so there is a chance you might break out a little. This all died down after a couple of hours though. After my facial was finished she carried on with my scalp massage, this made me drift off as I lost track of time. The oils really help to hydrate your scalp and it does wonders for your hair too.

After a glass of water and a sit down in their relaxation room we were ready for our last treatment of the day the ‘Beautiful Back’. The back massage leaves you feeling like you’re walking on air, it was surprising to me how many knots I actually had in my back. The products used also left me with a super soft back; this would be great if any of you ladies out there are planning on wearing something backless for your Christmas Party.

They have some other great facilities such as a gym, sauna and pool. You could really spend the whole day here and forget about troubles. I’d really recommend visiting for a special occasion or as a treat to yourself because we all need them every now and again.
