Event: Harvey Nichols Trend ShowcaseFriday, 24 April 2015
On Wednesday I headed down to the Harvey Nichols Trend Showcase with the lovely Lizzy from Shot From The Street. We were treated to a trend talk from Anita Barr who is Group Buying Director, Olivia Richardson the Head of Womenswear Fashion Buying and Tina Lamb the Buying Manager for Shoes and Accessories. The evening was hosted by David Rowley who is the Personal Shopping Manager at Harvey Nichols Leeds. Each of the ladies have a rich history in fashion and it was refreshing to hear about how they each were able to carve out their careers. Anita Barr has only been with the brand for a year but you could really get a sense for how passionate she is about Harvey Nichols. She even told us that they are developing an app which I'll be excited to try out.
A big trend that shone through all nine of the looks they presented was of course the 70s. Wether it be the studio 54 look or prints and suede, there was a 70s look to suit all. I particularly fell in love with the look above, the Saint Laurent hat is just perfection. I'm really into wide leg trousers at the moment, so I was really digging the Lanvin high waist trousers too. The all Gucci look above was another favourite of mine, mainly because of the boots. I just wish I could afford them...
After the trend talk we were treated to a question and answer session. Anita told everyone how in the past suede hadn't been very popular because of the up keep that comes with it. But this season its all change as suede bags are selling better than anything else. It was also revealed that Harvey Nichols will be training their shop floor advisors about body shape, make-up and hair etc This is to arm them with more confidence to advise customers and give them a better experience. I thought this was a such a good idea and it gives you a more personal experience, if you are spending a lot of money you want to feel like the service is part of the purchase.
