Event: Harvey Nichols Art of Style Trend Presentation
Last week I was invited along to the Art of Style trend presentation at Harvey Nichols Leeds. We were treated to an evening of conversation about how style relates to art. The three ladies on the panel (left to right above) were Aldene Johnson who is the personalist stylist to Florence Welch, Ellie Andrews the art curator, co-owner and director of The Gallery at Munro House and Jennifer Lee O’Brien journalist from The City Talking. Jennifer acted as the presenter for the evening interviewing both guests and then taking questions from the audience.
It was great to listen to an intellectual talk about how fashion fits into the art world, so often fashion comes up against stigma for being vacant. I’ve had to have a few conversations in the past trying to defend my career choice.
I posed a question to Aldene which was ‘if you could choose someone to dress who would it be and why?’ Her answer was Annabelle Wallis, best known for her role in The Tudors. And the timeless and elegant Julianne Moore.
Aldene told us a great anecdote about when she dressed Florence for an X Factor performance in 2011
. The huge chiffon trains ended up being sewed on the wrong way round and right up until the count down they were re-sewing. And ended up hiding behind the monitors when the cameras started rolling.
We were also treated to a trend talk with some pretty amazing looks courtesy of Harvey Nichols. My favourite had to be the first look in the pictures above. That Valentino floral coat is an absolute dream, this collection had so many pretty prints through out. The Alexa Chung for AG Jeans black flares were perfect for this look, I could imagine Florence in this for a more ‘off-duty’ look.
