5 Ways To De-Stress

Working full time, looking after our home and running a blog on the side can be stressful. That’s why it is so important to be able to relax and switch off every now and again. You owe it to yourself. I’ve put a little list of my top 5 ways to de-stress together, maybe you’ll find your new favourite?

1. Adult Colouring
I know this has become somewhat of a craze of late but it honestly does help to de-stress. At times I’ve become so relaxed that I’ve started to fall asleep as I’m drawing. Resulting in some rather messy colouring and straying out of the lines.
2. Podcasts
I’ve recently really got into Podcats, after a few recommendations from friends. I find it hard to just get into bed and sleep on a night and so often I turn to podcasts to send me to sleep. I also listen to them on the way to work, it makes the commute go quicker! If you are looking for something to make you laugh out loud I would recommend My Dad Wrote a Porno or How Did it Get Made?
If you are into more serious subjects you should check out Serial or the BBC’s Women’s Hour Daily Podcast.
3. Listening to Music
Sometimes there is nothing better than sticking on your favourite album and taking the time to listen to it. Too often music is the background to our lives, when we let it come to the forefront magical things can happen. If no one is watching you can have a good sing and dance too….
4. Cooking
I know cooking isn’t for everyone, it wasn’t something I was really good at or interested in until I got my own kitchen. I once burnt a jacket potato! There is something truly satisfying about finishing a meal from scratch adn watching someone else really enjoy your food. Cooking is a chance for me to switch off and only think of the task at hand.
5. Reading
Reading has been one of my favourite ways to de-stress for as long as I can remember. I lost many afternoons as a child in another world, imaging characters and settings. As an adult I’m disappointed to say I just don’t read enough. I’ve made a quiet promise to myself that this year I will read more. I’m already doing well with this promise, as I’m about a half way through Yes Please already. So turn off all of your technology (unless your reading on a kindle), put the kettle on and find a good corner to sit in. Lose yourself in the book and your stress will melt away.

What do you do to relax?
