London Fashion Week: Apu Jan and Belstaff AW16
The Apu Jan show is something I always clear a space for on my fashion week schedule. There is always a real buzz around it, a crowd outside who are genuine fans of his work are busy discussing what they think the show will centre around. Once inside you are always greeted by live music. It creates a perfect the atmosphere and you can almost forget you’re at a fashion show.
But then you see the clothes. Beautiful sheer knit dresses with a simple extended knitting needle at the top, although simple you could see the quality of the dress and the work that had obviously gone into this piece. The knitted grey sweater with matching trousers is something I could just happily live in forever. The cut of the sweater was a little different which added something extra to the piece.
Although Jan is known for his knitwear there were also some fabulous show-stopping gowns with deep low cut halter-neck designs. The prints were especially interesting, the dress above was adorned with roses and miniature time pieces.
The Belstaff AW16 presentation is one of the most impressive presentations I’d ever been to. One Marylebone played host to the collection which was a capsule collection in collaboration with Liv Tyler. She helped to design this with the vice-president of women’s design, Delphine Ninous.
They were both inspired by the unisex nature of some pieces – like when you borrow your boyfriends leather jacket. But equally, as a working mother Liv wanted to the collection to be functional but stylish. She certaily achieved this as I heard many a group of people gushing about the pieces.
I have to say I was really impressed with the whole collection, the attention to detail was amazing. From the tie detail on the leather trousers to the fur lining on a jumper, every piece had an interesting edge. The outerwear was the clear winner for me though but would you expect anything less from Belstaff?
