Thoughts On Body Shape

I thought I'd do more of a thought piece around my outfit today. Gone are the days where I simply list what I'm wearing and how much I like it. This is more of a space for me to let you know how I'm feeling and what is on my mind lately. I think I'm going to enjoy the new way of writing outfit posts, as I'll actually get to write.

I was inspired to write this post after seeing Carrie from Wish Wish Wish's post about body image and feeling confident. Carrie and a lot of the commenters hit the nail on the head for me. We are constantly bombarded with images of the 'perfect body' - flat stomachs and thigh gaps. Or being 'beach ready.' Don't get me wrong I would love to have a flat stomach but for some of us out there this isn't achievable. Especially with busy schedules and barely being able to fit two sessions at the gym in a week.  I don't think I was meant to be below a certain size, I don't think I'd look like me. Just want to point out here that girls with small figures are beautiful though!
I also feel like there has been a focus on plus size ladies, which is awesome, these girls have spent so much time being taught to be ashamed of their bodies. Which is ridiculous. Ladies you deserve your time in the spotlight! But that kind of leaves those of us in the middle, like me, to wonder where we fit in to these body types. I'm neither a slender lady or a plus size lady so where does that leave me?
When I go out shopping it seems to be those two sides of the spectrum and nothing much showing someone my size how to be body confident. It would be nice to see my size represented too, does anyone else feel this way?

That leads me onto this little stripy number, which was sent to me from the lovely guys at Petit Bateau. Super comfy and perfect for those days where you want to look 'chic' without having to make much effort. And might I add, IT HAS POCKETS PEOPLE. It also hides a few of my own problem areas which is fine by me.

A shout out goes to Matt McCormick who took these pictures for me. Matt recently moved back to Leeds from London and I got in touch with him after seeing some other pictures he's taken for some other bloggers I know. Talking about body shape and image, Matt made me feel really comfortable and I think the pictures turned out great! If you are in the Leeds area and need some pictures taking you should get in touch with him.

  1. I totally know what you mean - I'm typically a size 12 amd so the whole crop top/short shorts thing doesn't appeal, but I don't fall into the plus size camp either. Average isn't really represented is it? I love this dress so much (I'm a stripe fanatic!) and you look gorgeous in it xxx
