Inspira Santa Marta Hotel, Lisbon with Doris & Dicky

Inspira Santa Marta Hotel Review Lisbon Portugal
I was looking for a city break for Rory and myself to go on for our 10 year anniversary (gulp) so of course I took to Twitter to ask for recommendations. Loads of people got in touch, time and time again Lisbon came up as a top destination. It seemed to have it all; the food, shopping. sights and architecture.
Doris & Dicky tweeted me and very kindly offered to sort out a little stay for me at one of the boutique hotels on their books. Tired of looking for somewhere nice on a budget? Doris & Dicky now list over 500 hotels all at around £100 a night! I settled on the Inspira Santa Marta Hotel which was a short walk from all the sights but tucked enough away to not suffer from noise complaints. The hotel itself has a very impressive entrance – all dark wood and open spaces. It didn’t feel too oppressive or formal and we both felt right at home. The reception staff were so helpful even talking us through the city map and places to visit.

The room itself is definitely one for couples. Mainly because the shower is right at the side of the bed (we were staying in a Superior Double Room) and the shower wall is floor to ceiling glass. Meaning there is nowhere to hide! Not great if your traveling with a friend and planning on sharing a room, best off booking your own room in this case. Everything in the room has been carefully considered, with the hotel adopting a ‘feng shui’ approach to the interior design. The room itself had a lovely geometric pattern adorning the walls which perfectly matched with the pink cushions. Everything did feel very together

You also have tea and coffee making facilities in your room, bottled water and a mini bar. I’ve often found even the nicest hotels don’t give you the ability to make tea, so this was a big tick in my book. Especially after a long day of exploring the city.

The bar in the hotel lobby was a little hidden gem which was tucked just behind the lifts (don’t miss it!). Everyone is given a welcome drink token on arrival for a special cocktail in the bar. A great way to get people using the bar and to introduce them to the mixologist. We had a lovely whisky cocktail which even my boyfriend liked (he’s not one for cocktails) – be sure to visit the bar if you stay!

We   ate in the hotel restaurant on our final night in Lisbon. I have to say the menu was quite rich so make sure you’re especially hungry when you sit down. The menu itself is a little more pricey than other restaurants we’d found around the city but I did expect this with it being attached to the hotel. The food was tasty and I’m happy to say there were plenty of vegetarian options. The staff were really helpful and attentive too. Maybe a few cheaper options on the menu would tempt people away from the cities 2000 bars and restaurants?

Overall we had a really pleasant stay with the guys at Inspira Santa Marta, who made it a home away from home. I would return as the location is amazing for getting around the city. It’s worth mentioning the hotel also has a Spa – which we didn’t get to try out while we were there unfortunately. Not enough hours in the day! I also loved that the hotel itself prides itself been dedicated to sustainability – and was Highly Commended this year by the Green Hotelier Awards.

I was offered a discounted rate by Doris & Dicky and Inspira Santa Marta Hotel but as always opinions are all mine!
