Dressing in Your Late 20s and Beyond

Navigating the British High-Street in Your Late 20s and Beyond

The British High Street can be a minefield. As we all know lots of stores cater and market their clothing at the younger generation (I feel like I can say that now as I'm nearly the big 3-0). I've been a little fed-up of what I like to call 'the kardashian effect.'

Crop tops, navel grazing body-suits and nude skin tight clothing as far as the eye can see. Not that I'm shaming anyone for wanting to wear this but it's just not me. I don't have the confidence to wear something like this and I know what suits my body. As a girl in her late 20s (!), 5 foot 5 and a size 12 I feel like shopping on the high street can be a little difficult at times. Not only is it hard finding something to suit me but the sizes also vary from shop to shop.

Over the past year or so I've come to realise the beauty of the cropped jean. With not being that tall I feel like this style make my legs look longer, also tucking in whatever you wear with them makes sure that everyone can see the smallest part of your waist. My boyfriend finds it funny that I tuck everything into my jeans now - It's become a little bit of a running joke. I like to wear a little heel most days when I'm not wearing my trusty trainers. I feel like a simple black boot just finishes off any outfit, I've been wearing these sock boots to death lately. As I've been looking at my wardrobe with a critical eye, it's led me to make a list of things that are missing at the moment. Which means I'm in the market for some black leather chelsea boots with a mid heel - Whistles?

There are a few stores and brands that I always look at as I know I'm going to find something to suit me and my body shape. My go to shops/brands at the moment are &OtherStories, Mango, Sezane and Whistles. I've also found myself buying less as I'm tending to save up for better quality items that will last my longer. I'm going to be doing a post on this soon - especially after watching Lizzy's latest video. Picking pieces I truly love make it easier to dress on a morning, don't you agree?

I've picked out some of my favourite pieces below for you to browse, along with the outfit I'm wearing in these pictures. These are some of my favourite pictures of an outfit that I've shot - that golden light is the one! Thanks Matt for getting my vision!

  1. Laura you look absolutely beautiful. I agree, I sometimes feel as though I just can't shop on the high street. I'm liking the cropped jeans look, think I need to purchase...

  2. Love this look Laura. Totally agree with you about tastes evolving as you grow a bit older. I loved wearing crop tops and revealing items when I was late teens and very early twenties, it was fun...but I quickly realised I wanted to feel a bit more sophisticated and elegant.
