Celebrating Female Friendship
Happy International Women’s Day! So much has changed since last March. With #MeToo and Time’s Up, I can feel the beginning of real change for half the population. This makes me feel excited for the future. I wanted to take the opportunity today to talk a little bit about female friendship. After your family and your partner, a group of close female friends is something which, if you find the right people, can become the best support network you could hope for.
There are so many different types of friends which I’ve come to realise at the grand old age of 29. Those you can call at any time day or night and they will be there in a flash. The super organised ones who help you make your life better. The wise ones who always give you the best, honest but fair advice. The ones who you know will meet you for a margarita at the drop of a hat because you’ve had a bad day. The ones who will listen to your woes for hours on end and just listen.
I don’t have any real life sisters, so I see my friends as sisters from other misters/missus. We wear each others clothes, we piss each other off at times but we still still love each other at the end of the day.
To quote Lily Pebbles book (which is out today by the way):
‘If I could offer one piece of invaluable advice for women and girls of all ages, it’s that there is nothing more important than creating and maintaining strong, positive and happy friendships with other women.’
This post is for you ladies, I don’t know what I’d do without you.
