Planning A Kitchen Update On A Budget

Anyone that owns a home knows that you go in there with good intentions to change everything within the first 6 months. But time and money are massive factors which means that some projects have to wait a little bit longer. I've wanted to change our kitchen up for the longest time but a new kitchen can set you back thousands. I've decided to updated my kitchen on a budget, using Pinterest as my main source of inspiration.

I've had to prioritize what I wanted to change as I knew not everything could go. The main problems for me were; the flooring, cupboard doors, handles and storage.  I want to create a space that is functional but also satisfies my personal tastes. Of course I've got all sorts of boards on Pinterest dedicated to the home. Once I started pinning more kitchen images I started to look for a theme in the types of rooms I was drawn to.

I found that I was looking at spaces that had some drama but also were really homely. Having an oak parquet floor is the ultimate dream for me but on the budget we have this isn't possible. I've found lots of great alternatives online.

Next for me is changing the cupboard door colour, mine were white but I've painted them with Farrow & Ball's Downpipe. It's really effective and easy to do. I've also changed my handles for brass ones with the help of Dowsing & Reynolds. It looks like a different kitchen already! Next I will be changing the work tops for marble effect and my old fussy mosaic tiles for clean white metro tiles, this will bounce light around the kitchen making sure it still feels spacious.

As I'm painting the cupboards dark it's important I don't loose all of the natural light. I'm going to create some open shelving which I can style and bring a little personality into the kitchen. I'll also be creating a gallery wall as a little talking point, I've stated to plan this in Photoshop. My next post will be all about how much the kitchen renovation cost and where I bought everything from, I hope it will inspire you to tackle your own DIY.
